Book Series Redesign
I wanted to redesign A Series of Unfortunate Events books for a special limited time collector’s edition that came with puzzles for the avid reader to decipher and enhance the experience of a great series. The suitcase belongs to Lemony Snicket; somebody was following him and so he had to stash his suitcase away with all his working copies of the books, his notes, and prized trinkets. Garbage
GFL (Green for Life) Environmental Inc. has a simple clean brand with a striking green accent color that gives their company a “fresh” look, which is tough to do in garbage. To push this idea further I created a dirty garbage pattern to be placed in all sorts of real-life applications, including posters and decals, resulting in the beautification of garbage all around the city.

Sex Pamphlet
This is a pamphlet I created in Info Design. Intended for ages 14-24, it is meant to entertain the viewer during their long stay in a clinic waiting room with crass illustrations, open-minded information, and shocking statistics. The purpose is to realize that everyone is different, and there is no need to feel ashamed or judge anyone else. It’s time to be open, honest and safe. Visual Language
Creative Challenge: Create a new visual language for film advertising. One that relies on and relishes words, instead of falling back on the usual photographic imagery. Take a director of your choice and use the power of type to promote a retrospective screening of their films. Christopher Nolan often plays with time in his epic movies. This is why I chose to center my entire concept around one continuous thread to illustrate a timeline that interacted with motifs from the three movies. • Memento chronicles two separate stories of the main character, and the scenes are clues/hints to restore his memory. • Inception plays with time since as with each deeper level, time slows down. Ariadne, the architect in the movie is told to design mazes and her character is based off a woman in greek mythology that lead the hero of the story through a labyrinth using her rope. • Interestellar’s letters are strung up in the stars, and in this movie all the astronauts are affected by time due to a blackhole.

I was commissioned to design posters, postcards and banners for Tender Napalm a play in the Toronto Fringe Festival. Story Telling
The work I did for this class was some of the most fun I’ve had illustrating, and I think that was because the final piece wasn’t as important as the story/concept, so I felt more comfortable trying new things. The first project was to create an illustration inspired by an assigned artist. My artist was Emily Carroll – a prominent voice in the web comic horror genre. She strives to make her viewer feel uneasy, so I decided to illustrate my greatest source of unease: water! Another project was to take the classic Red Riding Hood tale and tell it a different way: in another era, from another point of view, maybe Red is a wolf? I decided to focus on the fact that in many of the versions the wolf seems to gobble down little Red and the Grandma in one gulp. “It was pretty dumb of the wolf to eat us alive, hey Grams?”

TV Series Intro
Pushing Daisies, which unfortunately is no longer on the air, was a sweet and quirky show about a pie maker who had the ability to bring the dead back to life with one touch, but if he touched them again they would be dead forever, and if a dead thing was kept alive for over a minute; something else had to die. The original intro has the narrator explaining the premise, but as a viewer I know that that can get annoying once you’ve heard it for the eleventh time so I wanted to tell the story with a few simple visuals. The animation is done using cut paper and then manipulated in after effects. The switch from black and white to color represents life and death and the pie not only reveals the actors, but also acts as a countdown. The show had a very retro stylization to it and I wanted to capture that with some nostalgic music so I chose a song from the electro-swing genre. Music credit: “Brotherswing” by Caravan Palace.
